Shawn Sweeney is a senior director of community engagement at the Jane Goodall Institute and works to create connections among the organizations staff, constituents, supporters and the wider world. Shawn has been involved with the Jane Goodall Institute since 2004 when as a college student he led a group of fellow students in Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots at the College of Wooster. Shawn has a masters of education in humane education and has been working in service learning and communications with the Jane Goodall Institute since 2007 when he joined the staff.

As the Jane Goodall Institute prepares to kick off celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, t-shirt company Sevenly is hosting a special campaign in honor of this great milestone in the organization’s history. This May, the team at the Jane Goodall Institute’s office in the Republic of Congo have been learning about the use of drones in conservation through a new partnership with Conservation Drones. Uses include: land cover mapping, more frequent censuses of wild chimpanzees, or censuses in areas unreachable by foot, surveying for rare tree species found nowhere else, to monitoring human impacts on the Tchimpounga Nature Reserve in which JGI runs many conservation programs. In November 2014, the Jane Goodall Institute participated at the IUCN World Parks Congress in Australia with the support of JGI Global and especially Polly Cevallos, a member of JGI’s global board. Congress materials have just been made available online and JGI’s presentations are outlined below.
