Why Roots & Shoots? Why Los Angeles?

title922505043“Through community anything is possible. Roots & Shoots builds community but more importantly, it builds character in people across the world. Uniting them by a common call to change the world for the better. The Los Angeles community needs youth change-makers to benefit their communities. If we invest in our youth, we will invest in our futures. Dr. Jane Goodall understands this, and with Roots & Shoots, we can change the way we affect our communities to benefit the greater good.”

title64440958Living in Los Angeles, I have seen firsthand what an empowered young person can do for an underserved community. For example, there is a member of the Roots & Shoots U.S. National Youth Leadership Council in LA who has clocked over 800 hours of service and manages a soup kitchen near his home. His tenacious spirit is contagious! Roots & Shoots offers resources to succeed. Empowering a young person could be one of the greatest gifts we can offer our future. Children, and young people, have capacity for greatness. It is with new eyes that we can change old patterns. It is with faith and hope that we can find solutions. It is the young that can teach the old. Let’s put the power back in their hands. Let’s push them to fight for what they feel like fighting for. Imagine just 10 more of these young leaders…imagine 20 or 30…or more. This could be the beginning of great change. Join me in voting for Setting the Stage: Developing Young Angelenos as Community Volunteers for a Lifetime.”
