Making Yards More Nature Friendly


The impact we have on our environment is a lot larger than most of us expect. Roots & Shoots U.S. National Youth Leadership Council Member, Yanni Pappas, shares ways that he has made sure that his impact is a positive one by implementing projects around his yard that make it more nature friendly!  Whether it be by reducing lawn size, planting native trees and plants, creating habitat for pollinators,  building birdhouses, or growing gardens, there is a lot each of us can do to live in harmony with nature.

About Author

Yanni is a member of the Roots & Shoots U.S. National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC). As a member of the NYLC, Yanni acts as a youth voice and works to make a positive change in his community — for people, animals and the environment. Yanni is a Senior at Sacred Heart High School in Massachusetts where he is involved in cross country, piano, and the school literary magazine. He has been the president of his school's Roots & Shoots club since 2011.
